Haiku most humble.

My husband has been
home for well over a month.
No shows on the road.

When he is touring
on a regular basis,
he is gone a lot.

Woodlands

Left here in our home
with son and dog to care for,
cope alone, I must.

Lick

I develop a
routine and a rhythm of
life that we stick to.

When my love comes home,
he totally disturbs that.
I get frustrated.

Like a true cooter
I take for granted effort
from him to help out.

I see the things that
bother me more starkly than
those which show his love.

There’s pee on the rim!
You didn’t check his diaper!?!
Pick up your gross socks!

But if I stop and
check in with my heart and think,
I realize this:

Whenever he’s gone,
there are very important
things that we will miss.

Daddy Love

We were in a routine. A routine that would be turned on its head when Daddy came home.

So we spent the week missing him desperately and Sunday night glad he had gone!!!!

Sigh. You brought back those memories babe.

  • Lotus, that was beautiful.

Hubs travelled a lot when G was first born (not to the extent of your hub, though), so it was challenging at times with the two kidlets and one less set of hands for a week out of every four . And you’re right, you have to adjust to a routine just to make it through the day. Put Dad back into the puzzle and it becomes a bit more chaotic.

But he is our world. You’ve captured that perfectly.

Since my husband is never gone for 24 hours or more at a time, I guess it is okay for me to yell at him constantly, right?

Actually, now I feel bad knowing he has to put up with me every single day. No wonder he’s so grumpy.

Send my love to your John and Braden! I haven’t talked to John in such a long time, and then I was thinking about how much fun we had eating “Meskin” food (and how Aaron had two straws) with you guys.

  • Lotus- I’ve been casually seeing a guitarist (mostly folk/indie rock) for about a year and a half. After a great week with him home from the road, things have started to turn a little bit more serious. This is a person who I could tell stories with for hours, makes me laugh constantly and who has a genuine interest in the world around him and brings the same sentiment out in me.

    My question are as follows:
    a) I’m pretty independent so the road thing, while hardly ideal, isn’t scary. BUT. The trust thing. He has college girls throwing themselves at him constantly (nature of the beast) and the gorgeous singer/songwriters on tour. He seems to think he can handle it but I am very hesitant. How did you figure it out with John?

    b) The scehdules. I’m a PR writer. I work normal hours then stay up too late reading/writing/ watching TiVo. He’s ready to chat at 4am. Tuesday, he texted me at 6:30 my time while I was at the gym but before he’d been to bed. Does this ever get easier or do you just learn the art of catatonic conversation?

    c) The lifeshare. Do you ever visit John on the road? Not to check up on him but to know who he’s with all the time. I feel like I’d be compelled to do that a couple times a tour but neither of us have careers with the extra cash for this.

Anyway…these are my ramblings for someone who has clearly worked it out (mostly).
