you are small in stature
with a giant personality
your size never stops you
from expecting the most
and after all, tiny is
only temporary
(much to my dismay)
your are revving and racing
through days and months and years
every day that finds you
meets its match
there is no morning
afternoon or evening
that you can’t climb
and leap from
into the starry sky you soar
landing in your bed
with a soft thump and giggles
that don’t want to go night-night
even though your small body
is tired and weary
from all the battles you won today.

So very true. Very nicely written. I think we can all relate all to well to that.

Very sweet. I think I have photos of my boy tackling the same obstacles. Thanks for sharing such beautiful thoughts.

Love the poem. My daughter, who is just a few months past two, has discovered her ability to climb as well as fall from high places and endure the tumble. She’s becoming fearless, unfortunately the cats who once had security in their 4′ cat tree are now scrambling for a new hiding place. She scales it like Kong.

It’s a battle we all fight and lose, Lotus. The battle to keep them young and precious. Don’t get me wrong – they’re always precious – but the ‘precious’ of a growing little boy is WAY different than the ‘precious’ of a tweener or a teen. Way different.

When I hug my baby boy, my head fits neatly under his chin. These years do go by so quickly. But, he will also always, always be my baby.

I decided to entitle my blog “The (Not So) Small Things”. I have found that children are the absolute epitome of no so small things. I love the pictures.. love the words. Beautiful post, made me smile.. my poor achy uterus. hehe
