Do you think this will mentally scar him?
My kid is clearly beautiful… and feminine.
Really… If you didn’t know… would you know?

Cause, apparently, even when he looks like this?
People don’t know.
“I love her shirt!”
“Really? I love his penis. Cause it’s right between his legs. Where penises grow. On boys.”
PS: At least I didn’t paint his fingernails pink, so leave me alone.
Next time, though, I am totally gonna put cute, little bows in his hair.
*
This is technically supposed to be a “Wordless Wednesday,” but apparently, I am incapable of actually just posting a picture, and no words. (Seriously, of all the times I’ve said it was “Wordless Wednesday,” I think maybe ONCE I didn’t type anything.) And I’m really starting to feel guilty for lying to such fine people as yourselves. So, um, that’s why I made the button. I’ll be doing “Less-Words Wednesdays” from now on. Whew! Now I can finally sleep at night. *snort*

Remind me to email you a picture I have of Bug.

I doubt any permanent scarring will result. If so, my own kids are doomed. (Though mostly I blog about my own misadventures, not theirs. But trust me, the vicarious embarrassment would be enough.)

i only think you’re at risk of scarring him if you include that photo in his baby book along with the insert for high school musical. cuz that outfit and the emo bang sweep is zach + gabby {for eva}.
i remember one time when isobel was wearing a purple flowered dress, tights, pink shoes and have her bangs pinned back with heart shaped barrettes and we were waiting in the line-up at the bank. and the man ahead of us kinda, poked her a bit and tried to chat with/at her, and then gave me the sage advice to stop putting my little guy in purple or else people would start thinking he was a girl.
people are ‘tards.

It wont’ scar him…until you show it to him in a fit of anger when he’s twelve…*lol*
But seriously, I get that all the time. When DC was a baby I always got “Oh, she’s adorable.” I’d smile and say “Thank you, HE’s happy to hear that.” And in return I’d get my (non)favorite line every..”Really? Oh, he’s too cute to be a boy!” Um, HUH?
And everyone thinks K is a boy…so it goes both ways. That’s why I NEVER assume.

if you’d his hair in ponytails or pigtails – quite possibly it’d scar him. although the flowery shirt just might push him *close* to – but not off – the ledge. haha!

I got that a lot with my son too. I would take him out in his pram wearing a blue, very definitely styled, boy’s outfit, with a bib that said “I am a BOY” and people would say ‘oh isn’t she gorgeous”. Their assumptions were usually based purely on the length and thickness of his eyelashes. Stoopid peeple.
Sue
To be honest, I wouldn’t know. But I’m horrible at it anyway. I’m not stupid enough to assign a gender to anybody’s kid unless I am SURE. Meaning: I would have just said, “that’s a cute shirt!”
That said, my son painted his OWN fingernails pink once when I wasn’t looking.
I have pictures. That might scar him too. But he was so proud of himself!

Oh and I so there with you on ‘less words wednesday’! Love it!

A hundred years ago, boys wore dresses until they were out of diapers (easier to get to the diaper to change it). I have pictures of some of my uncles in long white dresses.

No, I don’t think you’ve scarred him – yet. It’s when he’s 10 and starts reading back through this blog that his self-image may be in jeopardy. And, of course, he may pull a Peter and just deny your existence when he’s about 15 and starts to take serious interest in girls.

When my daughter was around 6 months old I was in the grocery store with her and my sister. Both my sis and my girl were as pale white as possible (very fair skin) and my daughter had these great big blue eyes (and no hair). A very drunk lady behind us tapped me on the shoulder and told me I had the most beautiful mexican baby boy she’d ever seen. My daughter was wearing a dress that had big flowers all over it with ruffles and everything. Oh, and pink sandals.
When the lady went on to tell me “he” didn’t look a thing like me, I pointed to my sister and said, “SHE looks like my sister here.”. The lady shook her head in agreement and commented on how my sister was a very pretty Mexican lady. My sister is as blonde, blue-eyed and pale skinned as they come. (just like my daughter) Before we left the store the drunk lady told me that I might not want to put my son in a dress anymore as it could “damage him”.
Yeah buddy.

tee hee… I think he’ll be fine. My best friend and I used to dress up her little brother in girl clothes constantly and he has managed to do just fine (US Air force).
I think he looks like a boy though. He isn’t very girlie looking! But people are just dreadful at that- people are always asking me if my daughter is a boy (even dressed in all pink) and we had someone confuse my oldest son for a girl (he is five) because his hair was on the longer side. Sheesh.

Ha ha ha! I have been facing this dilemma with James since the day he was born. I just take it as a compliment that they think my child is so beautiful, and sad that our culture has so many gender issues that that person thinks only a girl can be beautiful.
Wait a minute…I mentioned this in one of my posts before…where is it? Oh, here it is:
“I don’t really care if you think my kid looks like a girl. I know, he’s just beautiful! But I do get tired when people correct me on that point, like, really? Are you SURE he’s a boy? Um…yes, I’m reasonably certain that’s not a cancerous growth that I see when I change his diaper there. Thanks for reminding me for the thousandth time this year that if we don’t give my son a buzz cut and trim his eyelashes by his second birthday, he’ll be socially ostracized for forever and become a freak of nature because HE’S NOT A MANLY ONE YEAR OLD! Seriously, stop with the girl thing. It’s actually none of your business anyway.”
I hope it’s not weird to quote myself, it’s just that this whole boy-girl issue gets SO RIDICULOUS! Your baby is beautiful. And if he’s not the epitome of manly manhood….I can promise you that I for one am glad of it. He’s only a baby!!
And I don’t think THIS is the picture that will haunt him when he hits the “everything remotely related to my parents or my childhood embarrasses me” teenage years. The butt pics, however…he might kill you for. Just sayin’.
