It’s the little things.

[Written Thursday night.]

This afternoon I
was given a trip back in
time with my sweet son.

I was able to
take part in something with him
not done for months now.

Today my Braden
laid on my chest, slumbering.
A nap on the couch.

Perhaps his butt-rash
made him need Momma Snuggles.
I had them to give.

We used to do that
every day at naptime,
when he was tiny.

He has taken naps
in his very own crib now
for over a year.

He’s such a big boy.
The time for naps together
has wittled away.

How I miss it now!
Even though I need the time
to get some things done.

Sometimes I need it
to stop my self from going
absolutely nuts.

But, oh! the sweet smell
of his soft little body
laying atop mine.

His back on my chest,
his head nestled on my neck;
his rhythmic breathing.

I would but forget
all about things to get done,
and gladly go nuts.

Sometimes all I need,
is to remember the way
my son makes me feel.

I read something somewhere, before I had kids, about mothers who, at the end of the day, realized that they hadn’t played with their kids because they had so much to do. It made me sad.

I’d give up all my free time for the nap snuggles though.

    Beautiful haiku.

I know this is a little corny, but someone gave me a print with this saying on it when my first baby was born, and I still remember it.
“Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ’til tomorrow,
because babies grow up, we’ve learned to our sorrow.
    So quiet down, cobwebs.
    Dust, go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby, and babies don’t keep.”
I rocked that kid every chance I got! =)

very sweet, i miss those naps sometimes too. I think this why sometimes I rock him a little longer than necessary if he wakes up during the night now. It’s rare so i feel like I can hold him a little longer than i would if he were still waking all the time.
