  • How beautiful!!!! :)

I think it’s fabulous to be able to focus on the significance of the day rather than all they hype and rush that often goes into weddings.

  • such a sweet post and I love the behindthescenes stuff.

again youre so like I am…we did a semiplanned semispontaneous ceremony with our families in tow (I was opening my personal training studio that weekend so they were in town) at the police station (jp) and we all wore sweatshirts from my soontobe studio (and were sweaty from setting stuff up…)

and 11 years later we’re still married (much to my MIL’S shock I think)

  • You look amazing and that is totally the type of wedding we want.

Only we have decided that eventually, when it happens, we will get married on our very own property.

    I love your dress.

And happiness? Is not needing a wedding that costs thousands and thousand of dollars.

  • Aww, that was sooo sweet! That to me is a fairytale wedding 😉 Bobby & I had a very simple, yet amzing to us, wedding. We went to the preacher from Bobby’s church house & had our wedding @ Bobby’s preacher’s house. It was Bobby, me, my BFF, the preacher, & the preacher’s wife. It was simple yet, elegant. I didn’t have an expensive wedding dress either & Bobby just wore a suit & tie. We went to a local flower shop to buy my bouquet & Bobby’s bouitinerre (sp?) & we had went a month or so before that & picked out a matching wedding ring set.

I feel that weddings done have to be extraordinary for people to be “happy”. It’s what makes you happy as a couple that counts :)

  • You look gorgeous in that dress. How very HAWT you are! And yes, your hair is actually longer than his – not by much, but it is. That said, John is a very. lucky. man. And so are you. No, not a man. You be a WOMAN. You are, as John is – Lucky. But the real winner in all this is Braden. And us. Think of it. All that crap you went through led you to Jon, Braden and us. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m glad you’re here and part of all this, no matter HOW you got here.

  • Great story – very different than my wedding (I *did* want the dress, the cake, the whole 9 yds) but I guess what makes a good wedding story to me is that both people like the same things and have a wedding that suits their tastes!

Would love to hear some time if you went anywhere for your honeymoon. (Maybe that’ll be Rebecca’s next carnival!)

    Colleen’s last blog post..HAPPY BLOG-IVERSARY TO ME!

Sarcastic Mom says:I agree absolutely with what you said (about both people being happy with the outcome). That is why I was SO pleased that John agreed with me. I really would have blown chunks if he had wanted a large wedding. I’m not the type that deals well with stress, particularly social event and large numbers of people-type-stress. Spew would have definitely occurred.

  • What a beautiful story. You look so lovely :)

I’m all for “low key” weddings! Ours was similar in fashion and I’m so glad we didn’t do the BIG church wedding…

Now, a secluded place on Lake Travis? Tell me you didn’t get married at Hippie Hollow? You’re wearing WAY too much clothing if that’s the case :) hehehehee

Sarcastic Mom says: AHAHAHA! A Hippie Hollow Wedding – now that would make for an interesting (and a bit scary) story! No, we actually chose Arkansas Bend Park not only b/c we thought it looked lovely, but b/c the stats I found for it said the traffic was very light. Not one other soul came through there while we were having the service. It was perfect! We regularly frequented Bob Wentz @ Windy Point and Pace Bend Park while we lived in Austin. And we LOVED to follow up a day of playing at the lake with a dinner at The Oasis. Sundrunk, water-tired, sitting on a deck overlooking the lake during sunset, with a full belly, a good friend next to you, and sipping a margarita. Perfection, I tell ya. 😉

  • Hello! I’ve been lurking for a few months now. Reading about your wedding was just lovely – both of my weddings were in the same vein. It took me a few minutes to realize that you were talking about Lake Travis in/around Austin. Must read back through your archives to see how you wound up in Nashvegas afterwards (I lived N’ville back in the late 90s).

Sarcastic Mom says:Actually, I don’t think I’ve written much about it in detail. I’ve mentioned being in Austin, and moving to Nashville, but no detailed stories. I should talk more about that. More ground for me to cover in the future! (I really, REALLY miss Austin, btw. I was in love with Lake Travis. And Chuy’s.) 😉

  • It would be enjoyable to read about how you got to Nashville sometime! :-) I came to Austin in 95, moved to Nashville and got married in 98 and was there until Spring 00 when we split. Now back in Austin in again, married again, toddler in tow.

Sometimes I miss Nashville though – despite that being a sometimes turbulent and dramatic era of my life, it was beautiful country. And there are actual seasons. I miss seasons.

  • At long last I find another woman who doesn’t care about big frilly weddings and rings! I thought I was the only one. We didn’t even pick out a special place for the wedding; we called a preacher that morning and asked if he would marry us. And our two witnesses were my husband’s mom and his brother’s wife. That was 32 years ago.

  • Your wedding sounds a lot like mine – only mine had a few more guests. We got married at a local park. I bought my dress on ebay for $16. I made my bouquet from Sam’s Club roses and some ribbon. And we told our friends and family to wear jeans and be comfortable. (Several wives called to verify this with me…they seemed to think their husbands heard wrong.) We had a picnic afterward. It was casual and fun – perfect for us. Several of the men have said they want a wedding just like ours.

  • What a great story…

When I used to photograph the big, huge, elaborate weddings that cost more than I make in a year, it always made me wonder what they were compensating for and how quickly the divorce lawyers would be involved. (Yes, wedding planners and photographers, caterers, etc. take bets on if the marriage will last beyond the honeymoon… :) )

Honestly, the weddings I did with the least amount of pomp and ceremony were often the most stable relationships. As my very wise sister said on her very laid back wedding day… this isn’t the most important day of my life, tomorrow and every day after is.

  • What a wonderful story. I LOVE your wedding.

From the 39 pictures I showed from our wedding (eek!) it looks like we had a freakishly large wedding. And, compared to your wedding, it was (about 80 people total).

But we had exactly what we wanted: a meaningful ceremony, a fellowship hall reception, a walk in the park (and good photography). The dress, flowers, cake, etc., were just “extras.” You know? What mattered is that we were getting married, not that we were having a wedding.

By the way, no one clapped at the end of our wedding. (I should have mentioned that in my story.) I considered that such a compliment. I’ve applauded at the end of many a wedding, so I don’t disapprove, really. But the fact that they didn’t made me feel like the congregation felt like they’d been at a worship service. And that’s what is was supposed to feel like. That’s what it was.

    As was yours. :)

Thanks again for telling us your story.

P.S. I’ve thought about a honeymoon story carnival. Tacky or fun?

Beautiful story! My first one..lol…oh yes there have been two…and probably will be a third…. I wore his mothers wedding dress, made my own flowers, there were maybe 30 ppl there. We were so young and in what we thought was love. The second, our daughter was two months old and our parents finally harped enough that we went to the court house and just did it. Don’t even remember what I wore. I sincerly hope if I do it again it will be as wonderful a story to tell as yours, no matter how it happens! Thanks for sharing!

  • That was beautiful! And so were you and your bouquet. I think the big wedding thing (I had one big and one not-big) puts too much pressure on everyone. This is *JUST MY OPINION* but most people spend an obscene amount of money on their wedding, and in the case of my wedding #1, I totally wanted to call it off, to give me time to think… but the amount of money already invested made me afraid our parents would be mad if I did that.

So, I’m all about the casual wedding. Your story is terrific.
