one moment i was looking at this:
and i seem to have blinked.
the very next moment, i opened my eyes upon this:
and that is both intensely beautiful and horribly frightening to me.

Beautiful indeed.
My babies are both taller than me now (not that hard since I am just under 5′, but still…)

What a perfect and beautiful way to capture that! I feel it all the time and try to find words to express those feelings, but how powerfully a couple of photos will do the job. I just recently found your blog and love your writing and photography.

It is crazy how fast time passes. I was just watching my son run around the yard yesterday thinking, “When did he become a little boy?” One minute I was doing everything for him and the next he won’t let me do anything for him (well, except for when I am busy doing a million other things… then he suddenly can’t function without me).
These pictures are beautiful and I definitely understand the sentiment.

We birthed them, we should have the ability to make them stop growing.

I completely agree that it is frightening. The best part is when they are kids but enjoy it to the fullest till they become really naughty.
AmazingGreis
Both of those pictures are too sweet. And proof that they grow way too fast!

Awww
I definitely know what you mean.
Though, it looks like Braden’s aging and John’s getting younger. Can he share the trick, or is just the hat?

Very sweet! It is happening faster than we realize, eh? My oldest is 9, and I realized the other day he’s potentially lived 1/2 the years he’s ever gonna live with us. Ever.

I had the strangest moment yet of my life the other day.
My youngest grandson was playing with me and for a moment when he looked up I saw my son so strongly, it just shook me to the core.
My “baby” is 22 yrs old now. (SNIFF!)
But it is very awesome to be a Nana and kind of get that deja’ vu thing. Its actually amazing.

My sweet little baby turned six this week. I know exactly how you feel. I fear that I’ll blink my eyes and he’ll leave for college.

Oh yeah. And it gets worse as the years go by. Dh remembers thinking, when we first moved into this house as young marrieds “Someday, our little kid is going to come running around that corner, saying “Daaaaaddd!!!” And he remembers the day that she did.
Now? Both children are taller than I am, and our son is taller than his dad. I am sometimes startled when I hear a man’s voice coming from another part of the house…and realize it’s my 13yo son. Bittersweet, for sure.
Kas
I know exactly how you feel! We’re currently pregnant with our 2nd and I’ve been feeling nostalgic and getting out the photo albums. It’s both heart wrenching and heart warming. It’s so bittersweet.
I’ve been following your blog for awhile and this is my first time posting
Rebekah
Oh i know that feeling! Its horrible! I cried so hard on my daughters 3rd birthday, it kind of just caught up with me how quickly her life was dashing by!!

I would agree with beautiful, not terrifying. Maybe it is kinda scary that our baby won’t be a baby for long, but life in action is always a wonderful thing.

Awww, how cute, hahah. I know how it feels – I remember my little sister when she was only a baby, and it seems like yesterday… even though she’s 16 now, and completely ignores me, lol. I miss those days.
