“She” is currently midget-like, apparently.

FuzzballWhen I showed off Fuzzball the other day, I didn’t mention “her” measurements. (We’ll come back to the “her” thing). The doctor informed me that she took measurements and they date the baby at 8weeks and 2 days (as of last Monday, 11.10.08).

Which is off, thank you very much, based on the “automatic” calculations done for pregnancy length based on first day of last period. According to that, the baby was about 9weeks and 1 day. It’s also off based on when I felt myself ovulate, September 19.

Ladies, can you feel it when you ovulate? Ever since the miscarriage, I felt it more precisely than ever before, complete with what’s called “Mittelschmerz.” There was actually a pain in the ovary that was releasing the egg, and I could feel it very distinctly.

On September 19, I was grocery shopping alone, getting really annoyed at the “mittelschmerz” pain while I tried to walk around grabbing food. John and I had sex before that day, not after (sorry for the TMI) so conception probably occurred on that day. Which would date the gestation at 7weeks 3 days on 11.10.08 – or with the arbitrary 2 weeks they add for your “Pregnancy,” we were at 9 weeks 3 days.

But she said the baby measured 8 weeks 2 days.

SO, they’re dating my kid a full week younger than I’m pretty darn sure she is, just based on size. Which I think is kind of weird. But to me it just means she’s small for age. And I’m hoping that’s okay.

11.14.08 Belly, ~10 WeeksOh, and I’m measuring approximately “Fat As Hell” so far. I’m not even into the second trimester yet, but the growing uterus has pushed out all my old Muffin-Top Fat so I am nice and Poochy already.

Here’s a much too graphic photo of my midsection. Like my underwear? Yeah, baby, I live for TMI.

About the “her” and “she” thing – that’s just the feeling I have. I’ve felt that it’s a girl ever since very early in the pregnancy, and I have no really strong scientific reasons why I feel that way – it’s just a “feeling.”

Things that other people would point to for “proof” would be:

  • sex several days before ovulation is more likely to result in a girl than a boy.  Supposedly, Boy Sperm swim faster, but Girl Sperm are stronger and live longer.
  • Heart-rate over 140 is more likely to be a girl (the heart-rate was 180).  Oops, this is actually false, but is a popular myth.  There is actually no correlation between heart-rate and gender.  A boy is just as likely to have a heart-rate of 180!

Regardless, I automatically think “she” when I refer to the baby and it’s not because of anything in particular that I can describe or explain to you. It’s just… because.  I know, I’m being incredibly scientific and highly persuasive here, right?  Oh well.

I’ll let you you know after the 20 week ultie. ;-)

And if “she” has a penis, then we’ll all just know that I’m officially full of shit.

  • I had a viability scan done at 9 weeks and they dated him 7w3d. However, at my 13 week scan (yes, I have had lots of scans) he was measuring 12w4d.

Amy measured anywhere between 2 and 4 weeks behind and yet she was a perfect weight at birth.

My GP says that when they are doing the early scans, any kind of user error will affect how far along ‘they’ think you are. a single mm can throw you off by a few days that early.

Oh and no matter what the doctors seem to think, I know exactly when I ovulated and exactly when we had sex. I know exactly how far along I am.

And you already know what I think about your belly shot ;) .

I never knew when I ovulated in the early years, it was only in my forties that I was able to feel and recognise this. By then I’d had the kids and a hysterectomy so knowing ovulation days were just a waste of time. (nice undies)

  • I’m glad the pregnancy is progressing well.

Here’s my theory on the whole boy/girl sperm thing. I STRONGLY agreed with your theory, having heard it before, when I fell pregnant the second time.

I also feel myself ovulate, and I know we had sex 3 days earlier – thus not only was the pregnancy a total freakin’ surprise, but I was ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED it was a girl.

I was WAY MORE NAUSEOUS than the first time – which I attributed to double girl hormones (you know, mine and hers).

I was TWICE AS CRANKY and treated my husband like a total dorkwad – and HE was convinced it was a girl too, because during my first pregnancy I couldn’t stop looking at him (hubby) with I love you crazy eyes, and worshipped him.

Everything about the pregnancy was SO TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

At 13 weeks I had one of those in depth ‘check all the organs etc’ scans, and the scanner announced “It’s another boy!” at which point I apparently sat straight up and said to her, “NO WAY! CHECK AGAIN!” I was SO pissed off for at least an hour after that. I’d been so sure, so arrogantly sure (of course my mother in law was the only one who predicted it right so I had some pride swallowing to do) that it was a girl.

Anyway, as soon as I started day dreaming (for the first time ever) what it would be like to have two boys, I totally fell in love with the idea.

    They would play TOGETHER!

They would play with DADDY on the GOLF COURSE, while mommy has a spa day! By HERSELF!!

Suddenly I was REALLY REALLY HAPPY with the idea! Anyway, now that boy no.2 is here and already nearly 8 months old, I’m still freakin’ happy with the idea, he’s awesome (not girl like at all – considering the hormonal freak show that he caused me) and he and his brother are fast becoming buddies, much encouraged by me!

Whatever your baby is, I wish you health and happiness, and as much ‘me’ time as you can get :)

  • This same thing happened to me with my youngest. I have been able to tell when I ovulate since I was in my early twenties. The pain has always been bad (cysts). He measured small too. But he was born a month early and was 6lbs 4oz. I really didn’t think that was small for a baby born a month early. He was a peanut as a small child. He had the same growth spurt pattern that my oldest had. At 13, he filled out. Now youngest is 14 and has a nice build on him. He’s short just like his oldest brother, but he has a nice solid build. Anyway, I bet that your date is right. Some women know when they ovulate because of the pain.

I ovulated on CD 21 (according to an OPK) and we “did the deed” on CD 20 and CD 22. I think I might get those ovulation pains that you talk about but they aren’t enough to rattle me so I could never go by them myself.

All of this baby talk gets my baby juices flowin’ again! Maybe we’ll have overlapping pregnancies!

They said , sorry we go by the majority not the minority….so whatever i guess. I know when i concieved my baby. Also, about the she thing. I feel like im having a girl too! • Aww! What a cute belly! I had the same problem with dates given my ultrasound techs and docs being way off what I calculated based on my last period. While I did know the exact dates of my periods I never knew when I ovulated. But they always moved my due date back so far I would have had to get pregnant WHEN I WAS HAVING MY PERIOD and I KNOW that didn’t happen. By the second time I wanted to say “Dude, I just have big babies” (first baby 8lb. 13oz., second baby 10lb. 12 oz.) but when I brought up my concerns to my doctor he made some really lame and very offensive analogy about how ponies tend to have ponies and clydesdales tend to have clydesdales (I’m nearly 6ft. tall) and just because the baby is big doesn’t mean their dates were off. Yes. He compared me to a freaking CLYDESDALE. Nice, hey? But I was ok with their date because it meant I would have my babies earlier instead of later! Still, it’s annoying. Especially for those who actually know when conception occurred. Hey, maybe you’ll get compared to a miniature horse! Or a seahorse! Lucky you!

  • well at least you were TOLD that your baby might be due at a different time. They measured our munchkin at the 99th percentile for height and weight at our ultrasound and umm didnt think to tell us. Although I dont feel myself ovulate, I can tell by other factors (mucous, tmi), that I am, and I know exactly when my munchkin was bred. They told us at our 8 month appointment or whatever that she might be early because of the 99th percentile thing and I said hells no that’s not going to happen and yet.. it did. It could be that I hadn’t had much to drink that day, or that I walked around and carried too much crap that day, or that we had just moved and stress was at an all time high, or she just had no more room to groove and ‘broke’ free… really a lot of different things could have contributed to it. anyway, everyone thought my munchkin was a boy because of how she was ‘laying’ jor I was carrying(including the chinese calendar thingy).. yet here she is in all her estrogen glory, with nary an adams apple in sight!

Ha! What a story. Don’t worry – I’m really not so invested in the idea of a girl that I’ll be upset if it’s a boy. In fact, John and I have already talked about how cool it would be for Braden to have a little brother to pal around with. Not to mention all the boy-like clothes we could use over (cheapskates!). ;-)

And like I said, I don’t base it on any other real fact than that I have a weird hunch. And maybe that’s just a weird after effect of having terrible gas. Gas can do crazy things during pregnancy….

  • Sometimes hunches are right, though! When I first got pregnant, the hubs and I were both getting boy vibes, and I was having dreams it was a boy. Then, a few weeks before the big ultrasound and doing a few online, “Guess the gender!” quizzes (which all kept coming up female), I started getting a strong girl feeling. It started rubbing off on the hubs, too, and he started thinking it was a girl. The first hunch turned out right.

And that was with a high heartrate, and I’ve been carrying him high the whole time. Ya never can tell.

What a cute baby bump~Hi Fuzzball :) As far as knowing/feeling the gender, I believe that the mom sometimes can just know. But, w/each of my pregnancies, I thought they were a girl & they were all boys. I guess I just wanted to experience having a girl & getting her all frilly & bows in the hair, all of it. BUT, I could not be more happier w/my boys~they are my world & even though there’s a huge age difference (Justin’s 12 3/4 [2 1/2 weeks til officially a teenager] & Kendall’s 3 1/2) they get along wonderfully.

I never tried the Chinese prediction method but w/each of my boys, my sister’s mother in law introduced me to the “needle method”. I googled it for you & here’s a link to a page that describes it. You should try it & let me know which it predicts (it worked for each of my pregnancies!) :)

As far as the “feeling”….with both boys I refused to think that I was having a girl. There was just no chance in Hell that God would curse me with one like myself. Thank heavens he was on my side. So he cursed me with male forms of me instead.

I feel the same! I feel that mine is a girl and thats what we’re hoping for, so…..

I also knew when I ovulated, which was late and know when baby was conceived. My period was late so I went to the doctor. The ultrasound showed me at 10 weeks instead of 12 like I worked out and there is no possible way that I was 10 weeks, it meant that we would have conceived 4 days before I got my positive test, which was only because my period was a week late. So I’ve decided to go halfway between and say I was 11 weeks, which makes me 12 now. I dont care what they measure, I know when I ovulated and I know when we conceived.

Every single sonogram (6 in the past 7 weeks) show me at 13.5 weeks instead of 12.5 weeks… so I’m going to just go a long with their dates. And considering that I look about 18 weeks pregnant, every little bit helps!
