I was fully planning on getting posts to You Wonderful People even while we were traveling, but that is not how it has worked out.
Who knew that hours and hours and hours and hours AND HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS inside a car with a toddler really does just destroy your will to live and make you not care about your website for a few days? Huh!
Who knew that when your husband gets all Road Rage-Arrific multiple times in one day, and you give up any chance of not being shot to death by someone angry on the highway that you aren’t as concerned about typing up a sarcastic post when you get to your destination as you are about falling to the ground and kissing it repeatedly?
And who knew that you should really add extra hours onto your projected travel time just in case mid-trip your little kid decides to pull some Exorcist moves from the back seat and projectile vomit repeatedly?
Man, that is one smell I don’t recommend ANYONE travel with for any extended amount of time.

Jeepers! Braden, hold it in next time buddy. (EW. And poor you – and yes, poor him too, is he sick now?) You’re still my reigning queen. Always.

You know, there’s a REASON you almost never see books about traveling with children. I mean, if EVERYBODY knew about all of this stuff BEFOREhand, kids would spend their entire childhood within 30 feet of their beds.

Great. I just want to say thank you for reminding me what I have to do next weekend. Ugh!
Other than the exorcism, I hope you had a great holiday =)

Our last trip my wife was pregnant and she was the one puking. On a trip that was over 1200km (that would be 745 miles) NOT FUN.
Hope things get better and you have a great time. We will put the blogging world on hold until you get back.

Fun trip, it sounds!
Just wait till you have two kids in the back seat, one throws up, the other sees it…and promptly follows suit. You’ll see. It is AWESOME!

Ugh, car barfing. My 5 year old can STILL do it with no warning….”Mom, I have a BLLAASRRFF” all over himself. I’m glad you’re done with the travels for now!

We stayed home this year for that very reason.
Though…
the thought did occur to me to get everyone in the car and set off down the road and then when the crying started say
psych!
and pull back into the driveway.
I think these kind of trips are the best. And much, much cheaper.

Oh man. We used to have a 3 hour drive from Tampa to my Dad’s place, and I always had to allow 5 or 6 hours for the trip, stopping every hour or two and letting the kid run around, or it was hell! Hope the company was worth the drive!

I remember being carsick as a kid. We travelled everywhere with a bucket on my lap and a wet facecloth or three in a plastic bag.

ewww…sounds yucky! we always carried a small trashcan in our car for the sick kids. with 4 kids someone was bound to get sick every time we took a trip anywhere. when ag was 2 she threw up within the first hour of a trip from texas to california. jacob was 3 and begged to be taken out of his carseat so he could look in the back and “see da frow-up”. we never did let him. we got back on the road after cleaning ag up and about 20 minutes later jacob threw-up. he got to see some after all. all we could do was laugh at that point. what a way to start a three day drive!
hope everyone is well now.

Whoa I’m shocked that it took this long for you to figure it out! But now you know! So, i am guessing you will not be traveling again for the next 6 years, yes? Unless another baby comes along, then extend the time a few more years. Good luck there!

You know, I have done 26 hours of planes and connections with my son to get to Asia. We have traveled 14+ hours to get to Africa and Europe with him. But we have only done ONE road trip in his two years, and those four hours out and back very nearly did me in. Never again.
Rest up. I hope the return trip is easier and less vomit-filled.

Okay, you are making me want to throw up now… and it wouldn’t take much since I’m feeling pretty queasy from being sick lately.

We had a projectile vomiting incident in the first few days of our summer trip to Italy. Think hot sun beating down on the car for hours. Yeah, that was fun.

God, I hate car trips. Why do they always involve vomit or poo? I figure that must end at some point. Hope you survive(d) the return trip home!
