Bewb Fest ’10 Winners!

It’s been another great Festival! I’d like to thank all the entrants for the great mammaries. And memories. Mammories?  You guys are awesome and without you, there would be no Bewb Fest.  Thanks for putting it all out there!  My love for you is overflowing.  You make me bouncy with joy – I just might bust.  No really, you’ve racked up great amounts of admiration from me.  (Ok, ok, no more bewbie puns.)

And thank YOU – everyone who visited and voted. We’ve raised a nice little chunk for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, and remember that all July Blogher Ad Revenue will be donated, so keep visiting until the end of the month!

I’d also like to thank our fantastic sponsors:

Lingerie.com, Bare Necessities Eden Fantasys and NippleCharms.com

They care enough about bewbies to step up and make Bewb Fest ’10 even more fun and exciting with some great prizes, so please visit them and show them some love.

There, now wasn’t that fun?  YES, YES IT WAS.

And please remember that ALL JULY Blogher Ad Revenue will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, so *please* keep visiting until the end of the month!

And stay tuned for me to talk about how you can be reminded of next year’s Bewb Fest in time to submit your entry, as well as my pledge to raise money and run in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Austin, TX this November!

BEWB FEST ’10

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – no, not Christmas…

it’s time for BEWB FEST!

We get to enjoy nature’s bountiful chest selection… and raise money to fight breast cancer in the process. A big thanks to @shutterblog for putting a bug in my brain last year about donating ad revenue for good. *ALL* my BH Ad Revenue for July is going to go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This will become an annual tradition for the month that Bewb Fest runs.

Bring page loads to this site this month if you want to drive that number up. And please consider donating directly to Susan G. Komen – many people only think about this in October, but we need to give cancer the finger all year long.

Remember to see the scoop on prizes and check out BF10 Sponsors, button up, and then make your vote count here (below) for your favorite BEWBs/MEWBs of your fellow internet denizens.

Without further ado, I present the BEWBS and then the MEWBs…

Don’t forget to display a button to support BEWB Fest ’10 and help increase the amount to be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Please share via your blog, email, Twitter, Facebook and yelling madly on street corners.  If you have a bus, consider shrinkwrapping it with the URL of this post.  No, really.  Come on. Please?

Bottom line:  The more traffic you drive to the site this month, the higher the amount I can donate.

Please note that this now annual Bewb Fest developed independently and with no prior knowledge of Boobiethon, and is not meant to copy, diminish, or devalue the work that is being done there.

*I have placed no restriction on the number of times you can vote. There is a blurb on the Polldaddy website that mentions that you may get a message indicating you are blocked for a time period >> “This is because we have received too many votes from your I.P. address. You will be unblocked again in about 4 hours.” No verbage on how many is too many. So just roll with it, and please don’t complain to me if you hit the wall.

Hodgepodge of things to share…

First and foremost, there is a wonderful update by Peter Mayhew about Anissa – she is going home!  That totally made me cry big, fat tears of joy.  Please read the update and pass along the good news in any way you can – on your website, Twitter, Facebook, shouting from rooftops, etc.  We need to spread this – ANISSA IS GOING HOME!

The tweet announcing she’s left the hospital is here. RT that sucker!

Additionally, we need to do everything we can to  help them now, again.  The copays for her outpatient care are $100 a day.  Anything we can donate to The Mayhews right now will be of great help to them.  You can click here to access their Paypal donation page, or click the image below.

Of much less importance, I have another two posts syndicated at Blogher: Falling Happens, But Jumping Takes Courage and The Not Good Enough Mother.  You may or may not have read them here, but if you have a chance, I’d love for you to check them out and leave me a comment over there.

*****

I’m also excited to share that I’ve started a new job as Nashville City Guide Editor at The Savvy Source. They are still looking for Editors for other City Guides (you’d provide regular info on preschool-age child-friendly activities in your town) for the following places: Berkeley, Charleston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Halifax, Honolulu, Houston, Indy, KC, Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Minnesota, Northern New Jersey, OKC, Pitt, St. Louis, Toronto, Vancouver. If you’re interested, Tweet @whithonea or email him

*****

I’m also contributing to Room 704 in its new, monthly format. (Officially, I’m Visual Editor/Cartoonist, but I’m submitting posts, as well.)  Check out the February issue!

Whew.  This really cramps my sitting-on-my-ass-doing-nothing style.

What have you been up to? :-)

********

April 7th, 2009, Madeline Alice Spohr unexpectedly passed away. Now, people all over are coming together to honor her and her family.  This post will show you a few ways you can do the same.

People around the country are organizing teams to walk in Maddie’s honor at their upcoming March of Dimes Walks. It is so easy for you to join in.  Just sign up with the team close to you and go walk that day.

I’ll update here as new teams are announced.

Facebook Walk Teams Group

Click Here for How To Start A MoD Walk 4 Maddie Team

Click to see a map of teams so far, it’s pretty darn cool.

Teams assembled so far:

(alphabetical by state)

*Organizers: please inform me of your teams so I can add them.

If you want to join one of these teams and walk for Maddie – please make sure you click over to the team page and sign up to join that team, so that you’ll be on the roster. It’s very easy and free, so make sure you complete that step so each team knows who’s walking with them!

It will ask you to enter an amount as you goal when you sign up.  Just enter anything – you can edit it later if you want. Don’t sweat that part, just throw something down and sign on.

Service for Madeline: Tuesday April 14 at 2:30 pm, Old North Church, Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.

Thank you so very much.

You can also still offer to help Heather & Mike with expenses via Paypal: formaddie@hotmomreviews.com

Or donate to March of Dimes directly through Maddie’s Original Donation Page

PS: Any incentives earned from donations to the Nashville Team Maddie walk team will be turned over directly to The Spohrs.

In her honor.

Madeline

Last night, I saw @mamaspohr’s tweets, and found out that she was at the hospital with Maddie.  I visited Heather’s site and sent her my love.  I was worried, but I was sure Maddie would be taken care of and would recover.

I was wrong about that.  Last night, Heather and Mike Spohr lost their sweet daughter Madeline Alice.

I am choked for words.  But I have plenty of tears.

John and I took a moment out of our morning to pray for Heather and Mike.  We believe Maddie is with God now, but we understand that this is not going to be an easy time for her parents, family, and friends.

It’s not an easy time.  I am heartbroken for this family.

Heather & Mike: we are thinking of you, and sending you all of our love, support, strength, and prayers.

In Madeline’s memory, please support the March of Dimes, which helped the Spohrs during Heather’s pregnancy and Maddie’s hospitalization after premature birth.

You can go here to donate in her memory: Maddie’s March of Dimes Page

UPDATE: If you’d like to do even more, please consider donating to help Heather & Mike with the services at this Paypal account: formaddie@hotmomreviews.com

UPDATE 2: We want to get as many people as possible involved in joining their local March of Dimes walks, coming up, in honor of Maddie. How many of you are willing to walk for Maddie soon? Speak up! We’ll start putting up information on teams that are gathering.
So far there’s this in the Cincinnati area: Sadness in the Blogoshpere

NASHVILLE AREA: If you are in this area, and would like to join our walk team: The Nashville March of Dimes Walk is on April 19th. I’ll be posting more as I get things in order. If it’s at all possible, go ahead and mark your calendars to walk with us.

Clean the shirts on their backs by putting one on yours.

The putrid piles of
clothing in my house are proof
of this one truth: I

hate doing laundry.
But at least I have the means.
Some out there do not.

The term that is used
is “natural disaster.”
I’m sure the victims

feel anything but
natural picking up the
pieces of their lives.

I have not suffered
severe destruction but
just thinking about

the devastation
after floods, hurricanes, and
twisters, I shudder.

At such desperate
times, I can imagine that
all help is welcome.

Tide is offering
practical help to those who
need it in this way:

You buy a shirt here;
proceeds provide clothes cleaning
service for victims.

So now even if
I am not cleaning my own
family’s clothing…

I can take comfort
in knowing that I’m helping
clean laundry elsewhere. ;-)

The rest of the story…

This past week has been
very long and so tiring.
There is much to tell.

To make long story
short, please read this post and then
come back and finish.

Okay. Now you know
the heart of the mold problem.
And you are outraged?

Asked to terminate
lease last Friday, but we were
ignored all week long.

We figured that we
will leave here no matter what;
need a place to live.

Well, we’ve been looking
for a house to rent all week,
so we can leave here.

Over and over
we “just missed” getting a house -
“Someone else got it.”

So much FRUSTRATION.
Home, John started falling ill.
So hard to keep going.

Found another one
and looked at it on Wednesday.
We really liked it.

While we were in it
looking around, a woman
walked in to look, too.

Would she beat us to
apply, taking the house off
the market once more?

Like I said it’s been
such a very long week and
my wits were frazzled.

I had crying fests.
We gave written documents
to our manager.

The documents were
strongly worded and we gave
them prints of photos.

Wednesday night I was
just ready to fall asleep.
Awake was too hard.

But I saw that there
are friends here who want to help
us leave this HELLHOLE.

Angie rocks my rack here.
And tells you how you can help
us move away, too.

Victoria, too!
She’s also trying to help
me get Braden out.

Unexpected Amusement

And Dawn! She posted
so that people would see the
ways to help us out.

I cried last night and
it was the good kind of cry.
I felt loved by them.

They say it’s darkest
before the dawn, and that means
get ready for good?

I wasn’t ready.
In fact, I was thinking that
the worst would happen.

Today we got news.
Owner will let us out of
lease with no more pay!

I cried, crapped my pants,
and did a dance of joy, all
at the same time. Wow.

Also, guess what else?
Application was approved!
A home to move to!

Now we just have to
cough up the savings to move
and pay for that place.

If you want to help,
Donate on the sidebar or
do this or do this.

(To paypal donate
leave a comment on the form,
“Use money to move.”)

Thank you so much to
all who have already helped
and supported us.

True friends gather round
when a person is in need.
I am bowled over.

Here’s Your Chance

I’ve been pretty busy this week and I’m seriously behind on my blog reading.  It wasn’t until today that I read this post at Daring Young Mom, and my heart goes out to the victims.

No. More than that.  My heart aches, it seizes up, it trembles.

I can close my eyes and mentally picture my entire home covered in mud.  Everything ruined.  A little blonde haired boy stands in the middle of the room I picture, smeared with mud, looking for his paci.  My lip quivers as I truly empathize with these people.

Please - read the entire post.  If you can, please help.  We beings who live and breathe, work and love on this earth can do nothing better than love one another in a practical way whenever there is opportunity to do so; whenever there is need, and we are capable.  Often we get too rushed, too tied up, to see those opportunities.  Slow down for a minute and look.  Show your Humanity.

PS: If you can’t afford to make a donation, you could always post about this and see if you can send more people to Daring Young Mom to read, learn and help in any way they can.  Locals can get their hands dirty if they are strapped for money.
