Tushie Update

The Beast was so tired from yesterday’s follies that he actually slept VERY well last night. A blessing among disasters.

By the way, he is teething a top right molar – it’s broken through well now. Braden’s teething is generally accompanied by other problems like sleeplessness, irritation, general illness, and butt rashes. So I’m hoping that this butt rash is a teething side effect. (He also had a mild fever last night.)

He woke up this morning in a great mood. His butt is still very red, but it doesn’t have that swollen look to it anymore – the red areas have already taken on that “drying/healing” look. Unfortunately, he had a couple of tiny blood spots. Amazingly, however, he acted like everything was sunshine and roses while I cleaned him up. Not one little whimper. I’m checking the window-sill for fingerprints. That HAS to be how his drug dealer is getting in.

I’m cautiously optimistic so far. We’ll see what happens after the first poop of the day. That is usually the most telling event.

We’ve been through seriously rough rashes before, and our method so far is careful cleaning, changing often, blow-drying (warmth helps), LOTS of naked time (hence all the Scatastrophe stories I have, people!), Kamillosan (chamomile ointment), and Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. If THAT doesn’t bring improvement, I’ve gotten some GREAT suggestions from readers. Thanks so much for those, guys. :-)

By the way, the Super Word Award of the day goes to Bill Gathen for “defacaketion.”

My sister in law used more of that butt paste than her kids had butts! She thought it was great for everything!!!

Molar breakthrough and a bleeding butt!? Poor little guy. Seems like he’s taking it like a man though :)

Hope a clear toosh and more sleep filled nights are in your forecast.

Poetic justice … 22 years ago my baby’s little bottom was as bad as your little one’s is now. Her daddy never would do the diaper thing (a post for another time) so I’d always accidentally elbow him awake on my way to her during the night. One time, I elbowed him good enough that it roused him awake & he sleepily made his way to the bathroom to, God knows why, brush his teeth.
Yep … got the Desitin mixed up with the Colgate. Awwwwwww

    He slept well?

    *dies with envy*

Thank goodness that his bum is getting better. Double check for smear marks on the windowsills, good drug dealers wear gloves ;-)

I’m sure you’ve heard them all, but when my daughter had a really rough rash that wouldn’t go away the doctor suggested using anti-fungal cream like you would use on athlete’s foot (or jock itch, apparently. Nothing is more hilarious than showing your husband the tube of jock itch cream you bought for his little princess) But I guess when it gets bad it gets kind of…funky. So a couple of dabs of the anti-fungal and it was all better.

    Isn’t it though? LOL.

I hope his great moods are keeping up despite the molar, honey.

I hope it keeps getting better, m’lady. Perhaps one of my soaps will help? (Not tootin’ my horn, it’s just that there are no synthetic ingredients in it, and the lavender is healing.)
