What’s love got to do with it? Nothing, it’s a hurricane.

I’m laughing right now b/c several of you yesterday were all, “Wuhh?  Why are you even ONLINE, YOU DUMMY?! You are supposed to be taking time off!”

The post from a few days ago about my lonely desk chair was indicating LESS time online.  It’s pretty much impossible for me to go completely offline right now.  Too many commitments call for my attention, loves.

As I type this, the Man o’ The House is on the road again, having left a few hours ago.  (And having left me with some midnight delight. Heh.  I’m gonna catch hell for that one.)  Not to worry, though!  This time instead of being gone for 3 weeks, he’ll be home in a short 2 days.  Can I get a Hell Yeah?  HELL YEAH!

Also, as I type this, I’m thinking of everyone with a home on the coast of Texas.  We called Austin our home just a few years back, and if you recall, I still miss it something awful.  Right now, Ike is beating the hell out of the Houston area, and John has quite a bit of family there.  Some of them evacuated.  Some didn’t.  We’re praying for them, and for any else who are there… and all those who have homes and loved ones there, as well.

Ike, go back to beating on Tina, okay?  Stop Messin’ with Texas.

  • Oh, how I understand you! Even sometimes it seems like having one more small child at home I can’t stand even the thought that I can see him for some days…

  • Austin is safe. I’m in Bay City and we are right on the west edge of Ike. I’ll be glad when he is gone, gone, gone too! We didn’t get the wind, but we are now getting rain, not hard but rain which was needed. :)

  • All Austin’s got right now is wind, a lot of wind.

  • I’m not worried about Austin, guys. That’s just where we used to live.

I’m worried about the HOUSTON AREA WHERE JOHN’S FAMILY NOW LIVES.

  • After nearly 12 hours of being beat up by Ike in varying levels, seems to be slowing down just a bit.

our fence is 1/2 gone, our trees are stripped of leaves, but we are all OK.

And Yeah!! for getting power back! (don’t know how or why but not questioning it)

  • My brother used to live in Housten but moved up to the Austin area recently, so I’m hoping he won’t see too much damage. However, I have a close friend in Corpus and am quite worried about her! Go away IKE!

  • Patsy Bain,

Glad to hear your’e safe! Lucky for you to be on the western side of the storm! John’s family is also on that side of it, I believe. I don’t remember the exact location, but they’re a bit southwest of Houston.

  • Margaret,

I’m from eastern NC and know exactly what it’s like, having made it through several hurricanes firsthand. It’s a relief when one passes and you are okay. The debris clean-up is a bother, though! You are one lucky chicka to have power right now, though! I’ve heard millions there are without it right now.

    Stay safe!

  • calicobebop,

Houston’s definitely not the place to be right now – Austin’s much better off! Corpus is probably okay, as it is quite further southwest. Cities to the left of the storm get way less damage than those to the right. Your friend should be just fine! :-)

I don’t have family in Houston, so I’ll pray for yours and everyone else I have been reading about the last couple day. I hope they’re safe…

  • Lotus, we were hit hard, but our family was luckier than many – I’m not about to complain about the inconveniences of the past week when the Bolivar Peninsula and Crystal Beach are pretty much…gone.

Drop by http://blog.jahangiri.us for a few pics – mostly from NW Houston, but there are a couple of videos – mine (from Labor Day weekend) and someone else’s (from the beginning of the storm surge) – of the Galveston seawall, just for those who have never been there.

Even with no significant damage to our home, getting around is hard due to so many traffic lights being out, and finding supplies and groceries is unpredictable.

Lots of people from as far as Canada are here to help us, though, and we’re grateful for all the power workers, delivery drivers, clean-up crews, and volunteers.
