Why yes, I DO still PhotoHunt!

It’s been awhile since I participated in a PhotoHunt Saturday. Just had other things my hot little fingers wanted to throw out there, I guess. I’m back in today, though!

Today’s PhotoHunt Theme:
DARK

I have to admit to you that, in true Emo form, my first thought at the word, “Dark” was the emotional kind. And it made me think of these photos, which I feel characterize my pain around the time of my miscarriage:

Tired And Emotional

Numb

But right on the heels of that, I thought about the natural kind of dark. And about the grand beauty that can be witnessed when “dark” starts to happen…

Beautiful Sunset, 2

Sunset

More Trees & Snow

And while I would wish you all lives filled with far more of the second kind of dark than the first kind, sometimes the first kind helps us admire and appreciate the beauty in all other things that much more. And if it does not, we should surely remind ourselves to look for it.

We need it.

Part of what makes you so beautiful is how willing you are to shine a bright light of awareness at the dark corners of your soul.

    I love you, Sarcastic Mom!!!

These are beautiful “dark” photos. I think you are a gifted photographer. I could take the same shots and the pictures would look like a 5 year old drew them.

Just went back through your archive and looked at your miscarriage posts (I’m new to your site.) I wanted to add my condolences. I lost two babies, and you really never forget it. I actually wrote an article about the first loss – http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/27/AR2007052700733.html – but I still can’t stand to read it. Until it happened to me, I never knew how common it was – or how much it hurts. In my case, I got pregnant again both times. That helped, because every day I’m reminded that if I hadn’t experienced that pain, I wouldn’t have this joy. It’s just exactly as you said above – going thru the dark places helps you appreciate the light. You’ll get there, but it takes awhile.

As usual, awesome pics. With my sense of humor, for a dark picture I would just do a black box and title it, this is dark. ;)

Dark and light goes together. If their wasn’t any darkness in one life I think the light of our life would be pretty dim.

Stop by when you get a chance my picture is up for the hunt.
    Coffee is always on.

Beautiful Lotus, and that you capture the beauty in the sadness.

    A wonderful post.

Neat Post! Sad tho… I hate to see women suffer over the lost of a baby… I remember feeling such a deep almost hopeless depression after loosing our 1st. The thing that helped me was realizing Id see him one day… and that he is in heaven with his Grandma :-) I believe that completely. I believe life starts from conception… so even though he was only the size of a grape… he was a soul and a life.. and he will be in Glory!

This is really and deeply beautiful, and I mean that mostly about your words, even if the pictures are gorgeous, too. I find some kind of beauty in darkness, even in grief, oddly, maybe, but it means that thank goodness I am still human.

All of your photography is truly art but this collection is stunning, I especially love the ones of you and also the snowfall. And you’re right, we should remember that if you never know the bad you can’t appreciate the good.

Have been busy also but for some reason thought I’d check your photohunt post — your openness fills the dark with light — brava, brava, brava!
